I am wanting to put a saltwater tank that is 90 gallons on my second floor or my 1977 townhome?
Is this going to weigh too much. A gallon of water weighs approx 8lbs.
Will this be too much weight for my floor? Yes I realize this is a stupid question but I just want to make sure before I do this.
Of course it won’t be too much. Don’t worry, you have nothing to worry about

i wouldnt take the chance, get a surveyor (or builder friend) to have a look at where your thinking about putting it. and take if from there. you should be okay but it really does depend

If you put it perpendicular to the floor joists so it goes across multiple joists and put it against a weight bearing wall it should be fine. If you put it anywhere else as Scott suggested I would have a contractor look at the location you plan on putting it to confirm the floor can support the weight long term.

Salt water weighs 8.5 pounds per gallon. That’s 765 lbs. Add in rock and sand (minus some water) and the weight of the tank itself, and that is 800+ lbs. That’s like 4 big guys sitting on a couch, or 3 big guys on a heavy couch. Your floor *should* be able to handle that.
