Bodyshock – Age 8 and Wanting a Sex Change 5/5 [HQ]

Channel 4 | Monday 19 October 2009

As experts consider a review of UK guidelines for treating transgender children, this film follows a number of children in the US who told their parents they were born in the wrong body.

In America, children under 16 can be prescribed hormone ‘blockers’ to prevent the onset of puberty, with a view to then follow with hormone treatment to become their new gender. This film follows the American experience.

These children and their parents reveal what it is like to face life-changing questions, giving a frank insight into a subject most people never have to consider.

    Dang, when she was interviewing bailey and was like would you change your mind, she WOULD NOT take no for an answer….MLEH!!!!

  2. z00dl3s Says:

    chris kind of looks …
    chris kind of looks like one of the jonas brothers, not sure which one haha. great documentary, these kids have a lot of guts to do something public like this.

    lol age 5 “lets …
    lol age 5 “lets play dress up i will be a boy (Girl) and you be the girl (Boy) and lets see how long we can act like it”. One stars to believe they are the opposite gender. Starts the taking the opposite genders hormones and two years into it they see a hot girl/ hot boy. O i am a dude/chick. What now? btw The kids are fake and GAY

  4. AdvancedRhetoric Says:

    You have to …
    You have to basically turn it inside out. You use parts of it to shape the vagina. The tip of the penis becomes the clitoris, parts of the scrotum might become the labia, etc. That’s why it’s called gender reassignment surgery; you have to rearrange the pre-existing parts.

  5. laufantastica Says:

    they kept saying …
    they kept saying that chirlden “grow out” of gender dysphoria, but that’s mostly bullshit. as you get older you realize how hard it would be to transition, so you decide to “go back”, probably identify yourself as gay, but you can’t grow out of gender dysphoria… ridiculous!

  6. laufantastica Says:

    @shmeel1977 i agree …
    @shmeel1977 i agree it made me so mad! i mean, you’re trying to raise awareness here, and you keep using the wrong pronouns! if anything, be gender-neutral.

  7. shmeel1977 Says:

    It’s annoying how …
    It’s annoying how the film keeps calling these children “he” when they see themselves as “she” and vice versa. Just because someone doesn’t have a penis and was labeled a girl at birth doesn’t make it right for the makers of the show to purposely misuse pronouns. And what is up with the whole “Bodyshock” title? What is so shocking about these children? Just because a girl is born with a penis doesn’t make her a freak. Stop obsessing over what’s in people’s pants. Stop being freaks yourself!

  8. Zardoz151 Says:

    How do you …
    How do you construct a penis?

  9. AdvancedRhetoric Says:

    My only criticism …
    My only criticism about this documentary is that it asks questions that only really cover one side of the coin; the questions come from a conventional perspective, rather than one informed by gender issues and theory. I think much of this could be better understood through a Judith Butler or Judith Halberstam type of lens, at least in terms of narration or questions asked.

  10. johnsonlamhk Says:

    What can they do if …
    What can they do if they DON’T agree, the kids may end up suicide or live a miserable life! Respect the kids, they’re humans and have their own rights.

  11. johnsonlamhk Says:

    Anything wrong let …
    Anything wrong let them to do whatever they want? They’re NOT hurting others, they just want to be themselves, the gender is not a problem if they seriously want to change, just the society and the people eyes were too stubborn.

  12. thexhairxmakeupxgirl Says:

    but it cant be the …
    but it cant be the end becuase it does not show what happn to them then

  13. Alanb1980 Says:

    Love the video. I …
    Love the video. I think it’s cool, and funny, that that one trans man’s mother has fallen in love with a trans man. It’s funny but it is also very cool. I mean, how often does THAT happen?

  14. Caelean7 Says:

    I can’y say that I …
    I can’y say that I agree with the parents allowing their children to go through with gender changes… but I will say, this whole thing breaks my heart. Not because they don’t want to be the sex they were born with – but because they have to deal with adult dilemmas at such as YOUNG age. *When Bailey was talking to the doctor about testosterone making him infertile… it was just really sad to me*

    @FaePride dont …
    @FaePride dont watch it then, simple as, although i found it facinating. these kids are extremly brave and shouldnt get penalised for it.

    @tatuevanescence my …
    @tatuevanescence my ideology is you are what you are and are what you meant to be. Ex. If i cover myself in fur and go live among lions, you would look at me like im crazy. Just because i felt like i was born a lion and can get surgery to alter my appearance, wouldn’t i still be a crazy human.

  19. tatuevanescence Says:

    i really wish that …
    i really wish that everyone was as honest and lovable as these kids and families. life is more than labelling people or dictate what is wrong or right. it’s there life, they choose how they live it, if they are girls in a boy’s body, then by all mean LET THEM change, not everyone was lucky to be a boy and have a male body !!! there’s nothing wrong, for God’s sake…. they are human and need love.

  20. tatuevanescence Says:

    @5857612 nooooo, …
    @5857612 nooooo, its not wrong. its your opinion but dont force it on someone else !!! who the are you to say what is WRONG or what is RIGHT !! these are happy families, the children are happy, so let them be !!! they do not think they are girls/boys…. when they look in the mirror… they see that hey are a boy/girl in the wrong body !!!

  21. tatuevanescence Says:

    @5857612 if an …
    @5857612 if an like you finds someone…. someone brave, and adorable like those kids, who look happy, their families are happy and they are honest…. yes, they will find someone FOR SURE !!!

  22. andreaburnett Says:

    These are amazing …
    These are amazing and brave families for sharing their stories. I think it’s preety cool how they have this program on the BBC, and it would be nice if we had something similar for families dealing with these issues in America. Great find, thanks for sharing. I think it proves to many just how young a person begins feeling their true identity, and sexuality.
