Is it wrong to ask for job seeking help when you join a professional club?

I joined this professional club to help advance my career. Being a liberal arts major, I had a hard time finding work. But when I went to ask some of the high ranking member for job seeking help and leads. I felt that they weren’t really that compassionate and eager to help me out. Do you think it was wrong of me to ask them for help? Or is it that I was just dealing with some not very friendly people or something? Would like some opinions.

You joined to help advance your career. Part of that is assistance with networking and job contacts. Hopefully, you were just dealing idiots. Think about finding another professional club that is actually interested in fulfilling its function.

Good luck!

Sometimes these clubs have a hierarchy… Try to strike up the same conversation with lower ranking members.

  3. Maybe they were just having a bad that day or something.

Or, maybe jobs are scarce in this particular field and that many people in the club are looking for work in it — which means that you’re all actually competing with each other.
