when inmate mail is read, what are the police looking for?

what are the police looking for in inmate mail when the read it? do they really care or do they skim it?

Well, seeing the kind of people that care about people in jail are usually not Ivy League, I’d say that their illiterate handwriting is skimmed to look for escape plans, violence in retaliation, further crimes, stuff like that. And of course for drugs, cuz people are very clever about sneaking drugs in in the mail, under the stamp, etc. Probably also depends if jail or prison, cuz crimes that get one in prison are harsher.

They are looking for clues to crimes that were committed or maybe retaliation that will be committed. Sometimes people brag about crimes they committed. I don’t think criminals should have the right to write letters when their in jail. They shouldn’t be able to do anything they normally do. Jail is supposed to be a punishment not a vacation.
