How difficult would it be for a father to gain custody of a child from a mother who is not openly neglectful?

How difficult would it be for a father to gain custody of a child from a mother who is not openly neglectful, but the father can provide a better quality of life? What steps do I need to take to increase my chances?

My husband has custody of his son, from a mom who was not a drug addict or anything like that…

However, to remove a child from either parents custody you would have to prove that being with you would be better for the child in some emotional or behavioral way. Just saying you have more money or a bigger house isn’t going to cut it, those are material things, not directly beneficial to the child.
