Is hotel stay for a couple of months during job relocation a taxable expense ?

I will be relocating to a different state. I am planning to stay in a hotel for a couple of months while I house hunt. Is this expense a taxable expense ? If I were to get a lump sum reimbursement from the new employer – would the lump sum be taxed ?

This is not a tax deduction your Moving expenses are ie: moving van, percentage of gas.You can use your hotel room as "office space" and THEN you can take a percentage off as a tax deduction, but you will have to measure the entire room as well for reference. To be considered office space it must be a valid port of call to your business,I suggest pending on your type of work,to take client calls via hotel room phone, and do paperwork @ night, this will save you a lot of money.
