How long should a couple wait before having sex?

My BF and I have been dating a little over 3 months, and we are both virgins. We have been doing foreplay for a little while and we will be doing foreplay for a while. We are waiting until the right time to have sex, but I was wondering, how long should a couple wait until having sex? For example, some couples wait 6 months, others a year, but is there an average time before couples start having sex?

well im just gunna assume youre a teenager, so ill tell you what ive seen with teenagers.
usually, with people between 13 and 15, they like to wait over a year. between 15 and 17, people tend to wait maybe 4-9 months. 18+ tend to do it within 3 months, usually a lot less. But then, there are those who like to take it slow and it takes them a while to be comfortable with it. and then there are those who are crazy enough about sex that at 13 years old, they bang the first guy they meet. Now, if you were talking about adults, like 20 and over, a lot of people tend to wait 2 weeks, or 3 dates, or something like that. :P

If you’re wondering this just to see when you should do it, then my advice is to do it when youre ready. 100%ready.
