How do we sell a couple of bridesmaid dresses after our wedding?

We got married back in May and have a couple of nice bridesmaid dresses to sell either singly or as a pair. They’re worth about £150 new each. I’ve tried Ebay and got a poor response. Any ideas?

Try Bridesmaid Trade: www.bridesmaidtrade.com or www.facebook.com/bridesmaidtrade. Free to sell as many dresses as you’d like! You could post all the dresses from this wedding, and then they’d be "linked" together so people could view them as a set.

  1. Craigslist is amazing… I think it’s international, too.

  2. craigslist is your best bet. YOu may be able to google shops that buy bridal items in your area

  3. Whatever you do, ad "prom dress" to the description and you’ll get many more interested buyers on top of them being bridesmaid dresses! They can certainly pass for both.

  4. If you are asking £150 for them and that is what you paid for them, you are asking too much and that is why they are not selling. You need to be realstic that the dress is now second hand an no longer worth £150.

If someone is looking at Craigslist, eBay or other sites for a dress they are looking to save some money. If you’re asking £150 for the dress and that was the price you paid, they can go pay £150 in a store and get a brand new one.

I have sold a few bridesmaids dresses on eBay and generally get about half of what I paid for it. In all cases I was happy to get that because I helped someone save some money and it was no longer taking up space in my closet – I’d never wear it again.

Here are a few other sites you may want to try:

Other places to consider consignment shops, bridal shops (some sell them for you).

Also, you can donate the dress as well.

One thing also to consider your wedding was in May which is spring and likely the dress is spring colors, spring colors generally don’t sell well in the Fall/Winter. You may want to consider holding onto the dresses until Spring, then Spring/Summer weddings will be coming up as well as proms – you will likely see more a demand for the dresses then.

One other thing also: don’t advertise it just as a "Bridesmaid Dress", also use "prom dress", "party dress", "special occasion dress", "quinceanera dress".

    Good luck

  5. If you couldn’t sell on eBay then you are probably asking too much or have unpopular sizes.
I bought a $150 bridesmaid dress, new with tags, off of ebay and only paid $50 — If I’m buying on eBay I expect to get a good deal.
